General Discussion / Future of SMFW30
« on: October 16, 2017, 03:26:23 PM »
Hi guys,

it has been quite long time. Normally I never do global messages but in this case I have decided to do so. Recent months lot of new people registered and purchased SMFW30 to my big surprise. SMFW30 is now more than 15 years old software so I am wondering whether you guys would like to get an update. Current SMFW30 is written in assembler. This is of course a good and a bad thing. It is fast and small but to maintain it or extend is very time consuming. Long time ago I started with .NET conversion but as the life pressed I had to start making money and could not work on projects like SMFW30 anymore. Considering new interest I wonder how many of you would be willing to pay for new completely rewritten version? I am talking here a cross-platform program (Win/Mac/Linux) and a web sound repository.

please let me know what you think about it

Regards,

Miro

News / New Update
« on: March 25, 2013, 12:21:54 PM »
Hello,

there is new update online, so please use the update tool to get it. For the people who's pc is not connected to the internet I will place updated installer later this week. So now what is updated :)

  • MIDI Editor - Unknown MIDI event is now just a warning and can be skipped. (on request of Paolo)
  • Patch Editor - well let's say this is not a full update (there are some troubles with the stability so consider it Beta) but polishes the import of the patches a little bit. I am working on this one.
  • SMFW30 - I have added some new disk image fingerprints from S330 and S50 which were not recognized before.

so this is it for the moment. Lot of stuff is going on for the moment so just be patient. I started playing actively again which means I use my W30 again more. I am reworking Tone editor to make the sound creation workflow much more easy. I hope to have this ready somewhere in the summer. So the upcoming updates will focus on Tone and Patch Editor.

cheers

News / MIDI Editor Update!!!
« on: November 21, 2012, 11:08:51 PM »
Hello guys,

I have created a bug fix update for MIDI Editor. There has been a known error in conversion when song contained Sysex event spanning over two sectors. Please use built in Online Update to get the latest version v1.8.0.0.

If you can't see versions of your SMFW30 when right clicking or clicking on About in the editors, most likely working directory is not set. To correct this, right click the SMFW30 icon, from the context menu choose Properties and fill the working directory. It should be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Miro Svetlik\SMFW30 .

enjoy

How To / Handy conversion script for HxC floppy emulator
« on: July 29, 2012, 02:12:09 AM »
Hello guys,

while you are waiting on direct HxC support in SMFW30, on the request of Wadge I have created small conversion script to make creation of HFE files for HxC floppy emulator easier. Here is how:

  • download my repack of HxC software v1.6.11.15 with included script from here: http://smfw30.svetlik.be/download/HxC_with_script.zip
  • extract the archive for example on your desktop (it should create a new directory "HxCFloppyEmulator_soft"
  • Open commandline by clicking on START button and typing cmd, then press enter.
  • navigate to the "HxCFloppyEmulator_soft" directory by using command cd. Easiest is type cd and then copy and paste the path to the "HxCFloppyEmulator_soft" from explorer.
  • now type convert2hfe.cmd name_of_the_diskimage.sdk where name_of_the_diskimage.sdk is the filename of diskimage you want to convert
  • script will create two subdirectories .\W30 and .\HFE in the "HxCFloppyEmulator_soft" directory. In .\HFE directory will be converted diskimage which you need to copy on the SD CARD, or script will print an error on the console window

I hope this will be useful.

News / Update for Tone Editor
« on: June 14, 2011, 12:22:44 PM »
Hey guys,

I spared some time and there will be an update to Tone Editor soon. Features added are:

  • playing samples right in Tone Editor
This is a tricky one  ;) we are speaking here about raw samples only. No envelopes, filters or whatsoever Roland does. Main purpose of this is looping.
  • Create subtone
add subtone on any existing tone and then edit its parameters

Update will be available through Live Updater.
let me know what do you think about it.

regards

News / FINAL BETATEST!!!
« on: March 03, 2011, 01:30:28 PM »
Hey guys, it's here!!!

I have done what I could and I 'think' I have a working package for you.

For the sake of quality :P can you please send me your wave files, midi files and diskimages so I can do some final testing?
Thanks in advance for this!

In the meanwhile I will update the website for launch. There will be automatic updating service as well so from now on you don't have to re-install each time a new update is released.

now here is a changelog:

Whole package
 - Windows 7 compatibility
 - cosmetic updates  ;D
 - help files (partial rewrite and update of the screenshots)
 - Internet Update (new development)
 - auto open diskimage in the Tone or MIDI editor (new development)
 - quick swap of diskimage between the editors (new development)

CD Editor (Rewrite)
- complete rewrite of CD accessing routines to use SPTI instead of ASPI. (No more additional painful install of ASPI drivers which work btw only on 32bit windows)
- x64 Windows compatibility
- preparations for Roland Harddrive reading

Tone Editor (Bug Fixes)
- Import of waves with odd length
- Editing of tone/subtone title
- Editing of all tone/subtone parameters with waveform preview

MIDI Editor (Bug Fixes)
- Correction of SYSEX troubles
- Correction of gate time 1 bug (http://smfw30.svetlik.be/forum/index.php/topic,165.0.html)

Patch Editor (new development)
- display of Patches with their Tones/Sub-Tones hierarchically
- Edit Patch name
- Delete Patch
- Save Patch (without sample data)
- Load Patch (with auto and manual mapping to use another Tones/Sub-Tones)

best regards

News / Sound repository
« on: February 24, 2011, 11:19:27 PM »
Hi guys,

I am putting some work into the SMFW30 website so we have worthy new release :). I've got an idea if anybody of you would be interested in the kind of online library of patches and tones accessible directly from SMFW30? Well there is certainly room for ideas but in the first instance I would like to know your point of view on such a functionality.

thanks in advance for your fast replies ;)

News / CD Editor
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:14:40 AM »
Hi guys,

I know you are all impatiently waiting for new SMFW30 but I still need to do something. There is one big annoyance on CD Editor => ASPI32. Unfortunately ASPI does not work on 64bit os so I am rewriting CD Editor to use SPTI.

How To / Import/Export Roland Song to MIDI
« on: November 30, 2010, 01:13:16 PM »

Hi everybody,

because of numerous requests I will walk you through import and export procedure for MIDI files.
Prerequisites are installed and working latest version of SMFW30 v2.0.

MIDI Export

  • Click on MIDI Editor button
  • Open Diskimage with your songs. (In example I am using official Roland Disk #3 delivered with W30)
  • Right click on the song 'SWING CAFE'.
  • From the context menu select "Save MIDI".
  • Press Save button

Now should appear converted MIDI 'SWING CAFE.mid' file in My Roland\MIDI directory.

MIDI Import

  • Click on MIDI Editor button
  • Open empty Diskimage where you want import MIDI file.
  • Right click on the contents of disk.
  • From the context menu select "Load MIDI".
  • Select MIDI file to import.
  • Press Open button in the file requester.
  • Press button 'Save' on toolbar or in menu File > Save.

Now should in diskimage appear newly imported Roland Song. You can transfer diskimage to floppy and load it in Roland.

Thats all for now.

News / Patch Editor
« on: October 17, 2010, 10:15:50 PM »
Hi guys,

you are probably wondering what happened to me to be posting so much :) But the answer is very simple, I've got sick (again  :-[) and been nailed to bed for half of a weekend. So tonight I got few hours just to lazy lay on the sofa and tend to all my hobbies :) (did some guitar playing first) and then made a draft for Patch Editor. So void my previous statement 'Patch Editor will be not available' and have a look on the basic display I have coded tonight ;)

If everything goes fine I shall have new release of SMFW30 with the patch editor really working by this Christmas.

cheers
