Save as Midi File
« on: November 17, 2009, 10:35:00 AM »
Hello,

I download your soft in order to retrieve all my W30 floppy disk and convert all my songs (it's a big word for many rushes.... ;D) to midi file (i'd like to work on it with a virtual studio caleld Lmms http://lmms.sourceforge.net/).
But I've found 2 issues :
1st : Some songs are not completly converted only few seconds
2nd : "Save as midi file" does not work : No messages, no file created. It's a little bit stange.

I will do the following check but it should take me some times (my w30 is behind many things  :P) : Load the song in W30 and save on a new FD....

If you have any idea....

If you want i can send you the FD image with the song which not works....

Hi,

thanks for posting the diskimages I will do some debugging asap  ;). Problem with the MIDI import and export is that there is no info about Roland internal format so I majorly reverse engineered it by try & fail method which of course is not the most reliable. But with this new data I shall be able to see what is going on ;).

Hi Lepatoche,

I have found the reason for both problems you are experiencing. First one is already fixed but second is a bit more complex. It is related to the SYSEX events spanning between two or more blocks of Roland song. It will take me some time to fix this issue so for the moment if the SYSEX is not crucial for you I advice you to delete it from your songs and you can convert it without problems.

cheers

I'm having a similar issue although in my case I am getting more static.  Attached is a file with two SP-12 Toms A and B that are from a Sample Kit.  I was able to successfully import the entire kit along with Tom A, but Tom B would not import no matter what.  It just gets mangled.  This happens with various other random samples from different kits from different product companies.  It's strange how Tom A gets imported, but Tom B doesn't.  Perhaps other can try and see if they encounter the same issue.

Thanks!

Jim

Thanks Miro!

Please note that I understand there may be an occasional WAV file that may not import well.  This doesn't happen very often and if it does I just sample it directly.  It does happen enough to mention it though which is why I posted it.  With my luck it will probably work just fine with you and everyone else...laugh!

Have a great weekend!
