General Discussion / Re: Future of SMFW30

Thanks for nice initial responses, I see there is also demand for additional functionality so let's see what features are in highest demand. I've created a new thread here under where you can list your most desired features. ;-)

General Discussion / Future of SMFW30
« on: October 16, 2017, 03:26:23 PM »
Hi guys,

it has been quite long time. Normally I never do global messages but in this case I have decided to do so. Recent months lot of new people registered and purchased SMFW30 to my big surprise. SMFW30 is now more than 15 years old software so I am wondering whether you guys would like to get an update. Current SMFW30 is written in assembler. This is of course a good and a bad thing. It is fast and small but to maintain it or extend is very time consuming. Long time ago I started with .NET conversion but as the life pressed I had to start making money and could not work on projects like SMFW30 anymore. Considering new interest I wonder how many of you would be willing to pay for new completely rewritten version? I am talking here a cross-platform program (Win/Mac/Linux) and a web sound repository.

please let me know what you think about it

Regards,

Miro

Wow Zac that's quite a work you have done with your collection ;-). I am impressed and happy to hear that SMFW30 played a small role in this story. I hope it will all play well together.

General Discussion / Re: How to Set Up Roland W30 Without Floppy Drive?
« on: February 13, 2014, 04:03:31 PM »
Hi Nick,

SD cards are formatted as FAT32 of course. However you need to convert 720k images (*.img, *.sdk, *.out, *.w30) into hfe files otherwise they will be not recognized by the emulator. Check this page http://smfw30.svetlik.be/forum/index.php/topic,177.msg274.html#msg274 I have created small script to make this conversion easier. I am working on HFE support for SMFW30 as well.

Hello guys,

thank you for the great response.

@Jim
You can use SMFW30 or SDISKW to rip the image. I am sure there is no additional information so images are fine.
Regarding those converted images that would be absolutely awesome. It will help a lot by reverse engineering of small details.

@katsumi
as I said above disk images are enough. Just send what you have then I have at least some testing material.

Well I will see what I can do  8). I will probably go freelance so in case that somebody wants to speed up the development or will fund me for specific feature, let me know. I would be then able to work on SMFW30 in much more efficient way. I think a day or two per week would be sufficient to make a real progress.

best regards

News / Diskimages

Hello guys,

in order to further develop SMFW30 I need your help  8).
I want to implement full support for S50,S330 and S550 samplers as well.

Can you please send me diskimages?   ;D

For the moment I want specifically S330 song disks but sound disks will do as well. If you have any questions just let me know.

best regards

General Discussion / Re: Latest Version?
« on: November 25, 2013, 03:10:02 PM »
Hello Jim,

these are latest offical versions released:

SMFW30  - 2.1.0.0
ToneEd  - 1.1.0.0
MIDIEd  - 1.7.0.0
CDEd    - 1.1.0.0
PatchEd - 1.0.0.0

On some requests I have produced test versions of MIDIEd,ToneEd and CDEd but these have not passed any final testing so consider them unstable. I will add history section to the forum when I will find some time.

In any case I strongly encourage everybody to use built in updater to fetch the latest version.

best regards

Hi Jim,

like you I have been putting most of my time of this year in my band, so there was not much progress. However as I said in my other posts I have made basic port of SMFW30 in .NET so the development is much more faster and maintainable. I am now investing lot of time in my new web startup but I think I will spare some time for SMFW30 related things in the Christmas.

I will keep you posted...

News / New Update
« on: March 25, 2013, 12:21:54 PM »
Hello,

there is new update online, so please use the update tool to get it. For the people who's pc is not connected to the internet I will place updated installer later this week. So now what is updated :)

  • MIDI Editor - Unknown MIDI event is now just a warning and can be skipped. (on request of Paolo)
  • Patch Editor - well let's say this is not a full update (there are some troubles with the stability so consider it Beta) but polishes the import of the patches a little bit. I am working on this one.
  • SMFW30 - I have added some new disk image fingerprints from S330 and S50 which were not recognized before.

so this is it for the moment. Lot of stuff is going on for the moment so just be patient. I started playing actively again which means I use my W30 again more. I am reworking Tone editor to make the sound creation workflow much more easy. I hope to have this ready somewhere in the summer. So the upcoming updates will focus on Tone and Patch Editor.

cheers

Bugs / Re: "Unknown MIDI event found"
« on: March 22, 2013, 02:05:56 PM »
Hi Paolo,

sorry I did not put out this update yet publicly because I just cannot seem to find what for the meaning this unknown event has. In W30 micro editor it is invisible so I don't know what it is. Anyway I will put out the update as is so you can proceed with your conversions.

best regards

Ok so I am back with an update :). Skipping of unknown events is implemented but I have also found a new type event in your song. I will have to load it in my W30 to see what is it exactly so I can add this event. Expect an MIDI Editor update this weekend.

regards and have fun  ;D
