Title: My W-30 testing New SCSI Gear
Post by: katsumi on October 10, 2012, 10:43:02 AM
Hello miro and SMFW30 members.

I bought this at last. New SCSI Gear,  Called "CF Power Monster"
http://www.artmix.com/CF_powermon_II.html

with internal to external expansion unit called "Bak Monolith"
http://www.artmix.com/BakMonolith.html

Getting operation check for the time being E-mu, AKAi, SCSI connections.

In this year 2012, I did not think that I could buy this.
Compact Flash Storage.
SCSI Connection incl Active Terminator.

But a product does not yet arrive me,(arrive at may be tomorrow.)
I do not know whether I am usable in W-30.

And I am looking for a CF card of x60-x80 512MB, There is only a CF card of x133 1GB.

It is hard that the slow and minimum capaicty CF card which it should be easy to obtain is not available.

But the maker (and seller) says " Using Macintosh SE/30 and Mac Potable ", but may use even 1GB because I can check the operation if even the speed of the CF card does not have any problem.

I Test it.

Hi Katsumi,

that is very interesting news. :o I am really dying to know whether it will boot. I suppose it will work if you boot from floppy. I have similar device from Microtech which is working but does not boot with W30. Do I see right on the photo that it does not require external power but is fed through SCSI DB25 connector?

In any case please let us know how it went and GOOD LUCK  8)

Hi miro.

it's Arrive.

However, now, I do not have time exactly and it only inspected CF+ boards.
I would like to check early.

YES. power from DB25 Only Bak monolith attached CF Power Monster II and CFcard using.
Bak monolith has External power input too, and using "2.5 inch SCSI HDD" or " Need huge power device connection".

That's answer from Maker

”Mac*, AKAIサンプラーなどの25pin外部SCSIコネクターに直接接続して、CF PowerMonsterを外部電源不要**で動作”

It connects with 25pin external SCSI connectors, such as Mac* and an AKAI sampler, directly, and operates CF PowerMonster by external power needlessness **.

*Mac SE, SE/30, Mac II, IIx, IIcx, IIcx, Quadra 700など。Mac Plus、Portableは、内部ターミネーター電源がないため、外部電源が必要

* Mac SE, SE/30, Mac II, IIx, IIcx, IIcx, Quadra 700, etc. Since Mac Plus and Portable do not have an internal terminator power supply, an external power is required for them.

* At the time of *CF PowerMonster and CF PowerMonster II use
2.5" -- at the time of hard disk use, an external power is required.

W30 SCSI DB25. Since it is not investigating, I connect it and whether the power supply is taken out with the course still tries.

Hi everyone,

I've seen these before here in Japan and I highly doubt they will boot.  I hope I'm wrong though, but you need a lot more than just an scsi to flash adapter.  That Shugart system is not easy to emulate.

Best of luck and please keep us posted.
